Thor cast spotted filming on brand new set in Sydney golf course

Thor cast members were spotted filming at a production set in Sydney’s south on Tuesday.

As seen in the video above, 7NEWS aerial shots appeared to show Chris Hemsworth, Matt Damon and Idris Elba on a newly-constructed set at a Little Bay golf course.

Chris Hemsworth could be seen decked out in his full costume of the thunder god, raising his hammer and playing out an action scene. 

Returned travellers have Brisbane hotel quarantine stay extended after Russian COVID-19 variant scare

Passengers and crew on an international flight that arrived in Brisbane last month have been forced to extend their hotel quarantine stay after several cases of the Russian COVID-19 variant were detected.

Queensland Health confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au that two cases of the B1.1.317 variant were recorded among passengers on Qatar Airways flight QR898, which arrived from Doha on February 17. 

Party store owner creates massive Ted Cruz pinata amid Mexico holiday scandal

One store owner decided to take a controversy on the news and make it into a party item.

Carlos De La Fuente, the owner of ABC Party HQ in Dallas, created a pinata inspired by the viral photos of Republican Senator Ted Cruz, walking through the Cancun International Airport. 

The image circulated widely following the backlash over the senator’s recent trip to Mexico amid the state’s historic winter storm.

In the photo, Cruz sported a mask with the Texas flag as he rolled his suitcase.

Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy jailed for corruption and ‘influence peddling’

A Paris court has found French former President Nicolas Sarkozy guilty of corruption and influence-peddling and sentenced him to one year in prison and a two-year suspended sentence.

The 66-year-old politician, who was president from 2007 to 2012, was convicted for having tried to illegally obtain information from a senior magistrate in 2014 about a legal action in which he was involved.

New Russian COVID variant on the loose in Queensland

New variant of COVID-19 is on the loose in Queensland, forcing dozens of travellers to extend their stay in hotel quarantine.

At least 74 passengers and crew who arrived in Brisbane on a Qatar Airways flight QR898 from Doha on February 17 will now remain in quarantine until Monday, March 8, after two cases of the B1.1.317 variant — or Russian strain — were recorded.

They’ll also undergo additional testing, with a letter from Metro North Hospital and Health Service to the passengers confirming the coronavirus infections “occurred later in the 14-day quarantine period”.
