Mayor of Kalgoorlie-Boulder

Ron Yuryevich

If Kalgoorlie-Boulder has a rich and colourful past, it has an even more exciting future.

Hard work over a number of years by this council has made our city a family friendly city nestled in the wonderful Goldfields woodlands with its array of stunning eucalypts and plants. When people suggest Kalgoorlie-Boulder is in a desert I laugh and tell them: “So you haven’t been there. Come and be pleasantly surprised.”

We are a green city that is in line for national sustainability awards.

Whether you are single, a young married couple or facing retirement we have the lifestyle for you.

While I have no empirical evidence to support the following statement, I truly believe for its size Kalgoorlie-Boulder has produced more millionaires than anywhere in Australia and that is continuing. Gold is once again the darling of the stock exchange, new mines are opening and nickel and rare earth mines add to the mix

Business opportunities here are endless, mining is big business and many come here in their profession such as in the police or teaching, see an opportunity and end up staying and raising a family.

And as far as education goes we have everything; public and private, primary and secondary and our world-renown School of Mines and now the Goldfields Institute of Technology.

On top of that if your kids don’t want to go onto university then the opportunity for your son or daughter to get an apprenticeship or traineeship is very high.

Our sporting and leisure facilities for a population of 30,000 are something we are proud of and there is a vibrant and expanding arts community.

The one thing we don’t have is a beach and even there I see a positive; no sharks!
