But plenty of couples have found the right balance with the loves of their lives and have been able to keep the flame alive through it all. And we're such suckers for love, that of course we want to celebrate loves that last.

It may be an honor to be nominated, but people usually come to Hollywood awards shows to win.
Sunday's semi-virtual and very messy Golden Globes ceremony kicked off a strange pandemic awards season in Hollywood. There were Zoom winners, masked first responders in the audience and hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler cracking jokes from stages on different coasts. And there were also a few winners celebrated for their work in film and television in 2020.
Kicking off the strangest awards season of all time, road drama "Nomadland" and mockumentary sequel "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm" took home big honors at Sunday night's glitchy Golden Globes.
In a hybrid virtual/in-person ceremony hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, "Nomadland" won best drama and director (Chloe Zhao), while the "Borat" sequel nabbed best comedy and top actor in a comedy or musical (Sacha Baron Cohen). In the other drama categories, Andra Day ("The United States vs. Billie Holiday") was named best actress and the late Chadwick Boseman ("Ma Rainey's Black Bottom") received best actor honors, while "I Care A Lot" star Rosamund Pike won best actress in a comedy or musical.
When somebody says, well, I started out young and I always knew that this was what I wanted to do, it’s usually a fairly meaningless generalisation. But when veteran actress Diane Wilson says it, it rings true and bold. In fact, what she says is this: “I was a war baby born in 1941. My father and mother conceived me in 1940 and he immediately left to join the war. My mother had to work so I started school as a boarder at Durban Girls College at the age of four. I moved as a boarder to Maris Stella Convent where Joan Brickhill was my drama mistress. She told me that I was a born actress so naturally I believed her and decided at the age of nine that that was what I was going to do.”
And there’s serendipity right there. A born actress, and who should your school drama mistress be but Joan Brickhill, grande dame of the South African stage. But that was all a lifetime ago. Diane Wilson, who was named after the song Diane, the theme song from the 1927 silent movie Seventh Heaven (later a smash hit for Irish vocal harmony group The Bachelors in the Sixties), has just turned 80, and Maverick Life approached her for an interview to mark this milestone.
