Tech for People: Avoiding a K-Shaped Future

Covid-19 is deepening inequity both within and beyond borders. And as the world shifts increasingly online, uneven access to technology is leaving much of the global population behind.

If we are to avoid uneven socioeconomic recovery and deeper divisions between people, industries, and nations, tech companies can't just focus on innovation – we need to focus on people, on inclusion, and on empowering individuals and communities. Otherwise, inequality will continue to grow.

World’s first AI-powered rapid COVID-19 antigen test launched in the UAE

Two UAE-based health companies have partnered with Canada’s Laipac Technology to launch the “world’s first” artificial intelligence (AI)-powered rapid COVID-19 antigen test.

YAS Pharmaceuticals and Pure Health will be working with the Ontario-based Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) specialist to provide an “intelligent and innovative way to deploy technologies to better protect the health of people across the region,” Laipac announced in a statement.

World Leaders Lead Discussion on Global COVID-19 Recovery

The European Union and the World Health Organization teamed with the international advocacy organization Global Citizen on Tuesday to host a virtual panel discussion on global recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic.


The webcast included leaders from the United States and the African Union, as well as actors and musicians seeking to solicit donations from organizations and individuals. The effort aims to set the stage for the world to bounce back from the pandemic, addressing issues such as vaccine equity, world hunger, the climate crisis and international aid.

Aged care residents miss out on COVID-19 vaccine in regional Victoria

Victorian aged care resident Kenneth McMahon was supposed to get the COVID-19 vaccine today, but missed out due to an administration error.

Mr McMahon, 91, who resides at Benetas Aged Care in Kangaroo Flat, says the last year through the pandemic has been tough.
