Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the cabinet minister at the centre of rape allegations "categorically denies" the claims.

Mr Morrison said the allegations of criminal conduct in 1988 are matters for police.

He confirmed to journalists that he has asked the man accused in the documents about the allegations, saying he "absolutely does" deny the allegations.
