Michael Pascoe: Property prices + interest rise threat = Clickbait

When not promoting the government’s shakedown of Google and Facebook, the main focus of media companies is attracting eyeballs in the hope of subsequently gaining a few pennies from advertisers.

And that, folks, is why we have clickbait.

Wardrobe malfunctions, anything real or imagined about the Royal family, two-headed snakes and frightening new diseases are great eyeball catchers – but if you’re a finance journalist, it’s difficult to work them into the business pages.

boost to JobSeeker will take Australia’s payment from the lowest in the OECD to the second-lowest after Greece

Fifty dollars sounds like a lot. But the increase in the JobSeeker unemployment benefit announced by Prime Minister Morrison on Tuesday is $50 per fortnight, which is just $25 per week. It will replace the temporary Coronavirus Supplement of $75 per week, which is itself well down on the $275 per week it began at in March last year.

It’s hard to see the increase as anything other than a cut, especially when coupled with another change which will allow recipients to earn other income of only $75 per week before JobSeeker gets cut. That’s down from the present $150 per week.

"ET is an essential event for the industry, and circumstances with the limited availability of a vaccine are just too uncertain at this time to take a chance with this, our most important and respected aluminium extrusion technology conference."

How to select the right blower technology?

PWE takes a look at how to select the right blower technology for industrial effluent treatment plants.

Across the nation’s manufacturing industries, there is a universal dependence on the reliable supply of low-pressure air within a 0.3 to 3bar range to meet the demands of a wide variety of process applications.

Probably none are more stringent than those for water diffused aeration and filter backwashing duties within industrial effluent treatment plant (ETP) installations. And it is in this cleaning of process waste- or contaminated water to make it reusable and recyclable where selecting the right low-pressure blower technology for the job is an essential consideration.

ETP installations are to be found within the process operations of a wide variety of industries such as food manufacturing and the production of pharmaceuticals, textiles, glass, cement, paper, and pulp. They play an essential role too in the output of tanneries, chemical industries, and general manufacturing activities.
